Research Famous Arkansans
Objective: Students will learn about famous Arkansans through the use of internet and literary research.

Duration of Lesson: 3-5 Days
Anticipatory Question:
Do you know any famous Arkansans?
Resource/Materials: Arkansas Idol Fact Sheet, SmartBoard, Computer Lab, Poster Board, Writing Paper, www.arkansas.com/things-to-do/famous/
Activities:
1) Teacher guides each student through choosing a famous historical Arkansan to research.
2) Guide students through website......to research chosen Arkansan. Students will record their findings on the attached Arkansas Idol Fact Sheet. After researching online, students will go to the School Library to see if there are any books associated with their chosen Arkansan to add to their findings.
3) Students will create a product for presentation on their chosen Arkansan. Students may choose from a poster, an essay, or an oral presentation.
4) Students will prepare costumes (either at home or at school, teacher preference) to depict their chosen Arkansan to ultimately parade for other grade level classes.
Assessment: Student products will be assessed according to the following rubric:
If student references Name of Arkansan - 5 pts
If student references category of fame - 5 pts
If student names major achievement - 5 pts
If student references 5 interesting facts about Arkansan - 1 pt each
Total - 20 pts
